SMEs and artificial intelligence: a real opportunity in 2026

Artificial intelligence is no longer a technology exclusive to large companies. Today, more and more small and medium-sized businesses are discovering that they can use AI to automate processes, improve customer service, and make smarter decisions.

In my experience, there is still a perception that AI is expensive or complicated. Many entrepreneurs believe that it is not applicable to their size of business, when in fact the barrier to entry has dropped significantly. Today, there are accessible tools that can be integrated into a website or internal processes without the need for large investments.

Artificial intelligence applied to SMEs does not mean robots or complex systems. Often, it involves simple automations that save time and reduce errors. From assistants that answer frequently asked questions to systems that organize customer data or help generate content, AI is increasingly present in everyday business.

The real change is not in the technology itself, but in the mindset. Companies that are beginning to adopt digital tools strategically are able to operate more efficiently and react more quickly to the market. In competitive contexts, that difference can be decisive.

One of the biggest risks today is not misusing artificial intelligence, but ignoring it altogether. While some companies continue to operate manually, others are already optimizing processes and gaining an advantage. That technological gap, although it may seem small at first, widens over time.

AI is not a magic solution, nor does it replace human labor. But when applied correctly, it becomes an ally that allows SMEs to do more with fewer resources. And in an increasingly digital environment, adopting technology is no longer a futuristic option; it is a strategic decision.
